Welcome to the central hub of my personal interweb! My name is Timothy Moenk, and this is my blog.
Here you can find out the latest and greatest in my life as well as explore things we may potentially have in common.. such as the web services listed via the icons to the right of this text! Click on the them to see what I've been up to across the web, and don't be afraid to say hi via txt, chat, video comment, photos, and so on!
And now it's time for describing words! I'm a futurist, social entrepreneur, a brain geek, a feminist, a technologist, a storyteller, a pantheist, a transhumanist, a rabid conversationalist, brother, son, etc, etc etc..
I like stories, music, art, exotic food, new experiences, and smart elegant design in any form such as visual design, interior design, architecture, organizational design, or software.
I believe in the power of the open web, and strongly believe that the discipline of game design can be used to make the world a much better place if practically applied across and between all disciplines. (Or at the very least make it all much more fun and personally fulfilling!)
I'm also a little bit of a mythology buff. Ancient mythology is awesome. Your personal mythology is even awesomer! All stories are mythological no matter how personal they are. Tell me your life story, and I'll tell you mine. ;)
Business-wise, I'm interested in the intersections of internet technology, human-computer-human interaction, social hardware, sensor networks, virtual and mirror worlds, 2d and 3d data visualization, and holistic brand/marketing/product/service/information/organizational process design. (Phew!) I'm a big picture thinker who takes the time to dive into the details.
But let's back up a bit.
I grew up in the north american south, got chased by a few hurricanes, was frequently in and out of the hospital as a child for laryngeal papillomatosis (thus the raspy quality to my voice), played some piano and then violin with some martial arts mixed in, and was "el presidente" of the animation club my senior year of high school. My k-12 experience ended with the administrators asking me to develop curriculum for the Graphic Arts department when the teacher quit months before the year ended. Since then I've survived a collision with a car, lived a year in Second Life where I began building my professional network and earned an Associates of Science in Psychology.
Of course, I'm big on all the social sciences. People fascinate me.
I worked as a social media consultant for awhile with Sherry Heyl at Concept Hub formerly 'What a Concept!'. I learned a lot working with Sherry, not the least of which was the challenges of individual engagement with large organizations in the era of accelerating technological and social change.
Speaking of which, I also worked a bit with the Acceleration Studies Foundation as their Future Salon Network director a few years back and played a support role in the Metaverse Roadmap Project which was an absolutely amazing experience. The document is starting to look a little bit out of date, but it's amazing to see how many of the scenarios and predictions in the Metaverse Roadmap Overview document (specifically regarding lifelogging and augmented reality) are quickly coming into focus! You should definitely check it out.
My current project is Splinter{Labs} of which I'm the originator, {Lab}Rat 00, and for the moment I also act as benevolent dictator. For more information, check out my projects page, or visit the Splinter{Labs} FAQ.
